So whats happening in this cold?

Well the snow piles up and it is cold but better( -19C today). Whats happening here is.... Clematis transplants under pill dispensing cups till they get a good root.....my very first lily in captivity.....Day lily sprouting......C. koreana seedlings.......C. mandschurica sprouting in a baggy......C. viticella blooming!!!!!....Coleus cuttings trying to root!!! You can seed the Blackberry Candy Lily beside the viticella. They are growing so good but I am not sure what to do with them since they need bigger pots already. The Day Lily sprouting is from Gentle Shepherd op. Also have some from Calgary that are starting as well.

January going out with a blast!

Well I worked last evening and came home in a real wind driven snow storm. Hard to see the lines most of the time.
Today is blowing but visibility is better. Thankfully not much snow has fallen. But it is white all around! These are some scenes through the window!

It is so white it is blue!

But then there is this .... Lily
These are from seed this winter!

I have had some seed exchanges and yesterday my SIL brought the new William Dam Catalogue. Nice pictures but doubt that I will order from them.

I have quite a list of seed to try and find for a friend in Poland.
Clematis akeboides
Cl.chiisanensis
Cl. crispa
Cl.fusca
Cl. hirtussima
Tripterygium regelii
Helleborus Double Pink
Forestiera neomexicana
Gaylussacia dumosa
Deinanthe bifida
Leonpodium evax
Aquilegia jonesii
Edriantus pumilo
Polygonatum roseum

Leave a note in the comments if you are reading this and can supply any of these seeds.

The New Year is off to a good start

Well I am back to work part time these days as a Lab Porter in the University Hospital here in Saskatoon. Good exercise for these winter months. 3 days a week is not a big strain and it gets me out of the house.

Winter has set in well and we have snow but it could be more to assure good moisture in the spring but it should be enough to protect the plants that were stuck in the ground last fall. And there is always life in the plant room in the basement. This little seedling is now transplanted and doing quite well. My Clematis viticella's from England are still blooming on and off and many little seedlings from other Clematis growing as well. I have 2 Blackberry Candy Lilies growing and they are about 8" tall so they need new pots. From what the seed sender could tell this is the plant. We will see when they bloom.
This week I received seed from Poland for some Edible Blue Honeysuckle as well as more Columbines and some trumpet lilies so they will get planted in about 10 days and there will finally be something to put on my Honeysuckle Blog. Some winter pics there anyway. Anyone interested should check out the Haskap Canada link and read Dr. Bob Bors papers. I was very interested in reading about his Sabbatical .

Well the garden stands quietly waiting for the spring warmth and old plants to grow and the new seeds and transplants to come. The dead sunflowers look like some very slim guard over all. Thankfully so far the rabbits and dear have not come to eat.

I am much in need of plant growing space as I have accumulated about 25 - 30 different Columbine seed packets from different sources and would like to grow a few of each at least. Also have poppies, violas, and pansies I want to try inside and so on .......... Morning Glories ....... have planted a bunch of lily seeds (day and asiatic) ....... what's next!
