Winter looks like this!

Everything is still laying under the snow and waiting for the big melt! These first pictures are of the newest honeysuckle plantation and also the area where I transplanted a number of Clematis and Columbine seedlings. Will they make it? That is the big question. And then there is the little greenhouse waiting for a skin and then to growing.

We had a big wind several weeks ago that took this Clematis right off the wall. It will get cut off near the ground anyway!

Downhill and home

Well we got to spend a couple of days on the slops of Marmot Basin in Jasper National Park. The trip out was close to a nightmare with blowing snow and poor visibility! But we arrived safely and had a nice room at the Chateau Jasper. The ski runs were good but the snow was not in great abundance. Better than some times when we have been there and not as good as others. The trip home was much better after a visit in Edmonton with my brothers and some of the nieces and nephews. What really surprised us was the intense cold which fell upon the city of Edmonton and all the way home. At one point the car thermometer showed -34C! Wow!
So here is a look out from the Eagle Ridge Chair off load area to the east and southeast. And one of the sets of runs. Good for people who are not in great shape but want to get a little downhill stuff in.

March 3rd

Well today has certainly been a better temperature day as we got to 0C! Some melting took place but not much. Tonite it is blowing and windy. We are going skiing at Marmot Basin, Jasper Alberta and I am sure hoping the weather stays good for traveling. Would be good if I felt like I had legs for the occasion as well! Slow and steady I guess.
So some things I have been doing in the plant room:
Cuttings from ivy, fuchsia, and chrysanthemum;
Transplanting sprouted Clematis integrifolia seedlings to small pots;
Watching Blue Honeysuckle seeds germinate and little seedlings poke up out of the Jiffy pellets. What a great site to see the seedlings begin to grow. Where to keep everything till spring will be the real challenge. Some other pictures of our plants. Orchids and oranges, orchid growing flower shoots and Violet Patricia Jean.
