Home again and back to the cool weather!

We were away from Mar 4 to Mar 11 in Cuba visiting our churches there and helping with some construction projects which they are doing. Very inspiring all around.

This was the church house at La Julia, just out of the main city of Havana. More sidewalk is being built on the other side of what is the street to neighbors in the back. The huge concrete pillar is to protect people standing at the end of the sidewalk from oncoming vehicles!
You can see pictures of the other construction site here (Bejucal) as the other half of our group worked there. We also visited another church, Santa Amelia for an evening service.

Thursday was our get to know Havana day as well as a little shopping at the new Market at the Havana waterfront. It was quite impressive to drive by all the Embassies and to realize that there are so many countries represented there. We did get a little time at the beach just out of Havana (Santa Maria) on the way to Varadero. Quite nice but it was a brisk wind day so mostly sitting and watching the waves roll in.

On our return to Varadero to fly home we had a quick look at the beach there but no time to stop and spend time there. As it was there was confusion with the time change and we got the hurry up at the airport! Just ended up with a shorter time time to look around and get familiar with the airport.

I did not take any plant pictures this trip so nothing to post here about that.

You can see some birdhouse building pictures on the About Birds page.

Of course the weather took a turn for the worse last week so it is quite cool again this week. More moisture though so that is good.

Some pics for a beautiful March 3 at +4 C!

This is a box with cells where bottles used to be packed in. I have taken the grid out, put in a plastic bag and put the grid back in. Each box has 50 cells about 6 " deep so I am hoping to use these for starting seedlings. Should give a nice deep root zone.

My very first Iris seedling. There are already another 4 or so showing in the pot.
And showy Phalaenopsis orchids doing very well.
Sadly we do not have names for these.
But they are colorful! Until next time!
