Well here we are at Easter

Easter and spring both are early here on the Prairies. Easter is probably early where you are too! Easter is one of my favourite seasons of the Christian faith. It speaks of our denial of responsibility for our treatment of others, faithfulness to a mission and the power of redemption. All the attempts we make to justify the appropriateness of eggs and bunnies and so on are really a part of the denial of the centrality of God. It is how many people of the Christian faith try to fit into the worlds economy of spirituality. None of these things are harmful in themselves but they have built another level of commerce which slowly erodes away the faith and the faithful. Why would I say this? Well just this week my wife came home with the story of how someone at work was "buying gifts" for their children for Easter. It is already a large shopping season and now the games begin as marketers will surely pick up on the fact that people are open to "gift giving", and another shopping frenzy season will be added. You can take it to the bank!
Am I a pessimist? No. Just a realist. Commerce has become the "spirituality" of the masses and it is very easy to get caught in it. I know this from experience!!
So here is my Easter Good News. Whether you believe or not, the redemption story here should encourage you.
