Rain is falling and we are drowning so to speak.

Well this has been a difficult week for many on the prairies as there has been flooding in many towns and cities and in the rural areas. In our rural neighborhood north of Saskatoon there has been more water running than we have seen in 30 years and it is filling every available dugout, ditch and hollow. This past Tuesday eve to Wed morning we received 3.5 inches of driving rain with a wild electrical storm which cut our power at about 5 minutes to 1. One of the neighbors said their power went out at 11 pm. on Tuesday. It did not come on till 3:30 am on Wednesday morning! Several neighbors reported 2 - 3 ft. of water and another about 3 inches. All our sump pumps quit of course when the power went out and we at least did not have a generator to power the pump. So we hauled water out of the sump from 1 am to about 3:30 am Wednesday morning when the power finally came on. We were so fortunate not to have flooding since we had just finished cleaning up from a previous storm in which the basement floor was flooded enough to soak the rug because the sump  pump had been left unplugged.
The running water in our ditches is traveling through the ditches and overland from north and west of our community and has created many problems. By the way it is raining again as I write this - not good news! Several pastures and driveways are flooded here and we are afraid that water has seeped into the water system from a neighboring city's lagoon system. There is also overflow coming from the landfill northwest of us.

Here are some pictures of the water  early Wed morning and then Wed afternoon.
The first two pictures are at our driveway and our neighbors across the road about 6:30 am and then by afternoon it was running over our driveway and over the driveway and the road to the west of us.
Look like this rain again today will just add to the difficulties. Many houses in the towns and cities around us have had flooding of one measure or another. And no end in site!

Hope you get some sunshine really soon! I just flew into Lethbridge two weeks ago and it looked like all the fields had lakes on them. Crazy year!

Hope you and yours and all your lovely seedlings are making out okay! Saskatcheway is making the news here in Brandon 'cause your situation is soooo outrageous! Here's fingers crossed for some sun for you!

It seems you folks in the southern parts of the prairies have had a terribly wet year so far. I hope your garden is okay! The electrical storms here in SK are amazing and powerful compared to back in BC. Yesterday's one here fried my modem. We got a new one right away!

Well thanks for dropping in all. Things are slowly getting back to normal. The water is continuing to run through the culvert in our driveway which it never does except in spring if we have had a lot of snow. Water is being diverted to the west of us and there has been so much. It sure produces a lot of grass to cut and weeds but we have spectacular red P. somniferum poppies and there are many other blooming things. I hope to get some pictures up soon but we are just recovering from punching holes tin the basement floor for a new sump pump and so on. Picked the first Edible Blue Honeysuckles yesterday and many more to come.
